Context

Isala is a large regional hospital with five locations in Zwolle, Meppel, Steenwijk, Kampen, and Heerde. In 2020, a large-scale network migration was planned because the existing network was outdated and could not support future developments such as connected care, video consultations, and the track & trace of medical equipment. Given the importance of this investment for the hospital’s future and the critical nature of the migration, QA Consulting was asked to provide quality assurance for the program.

Approach

QA Consulting conducted an independent assessment based on a standards framework that distinguished between the program itself (process) and the resulting network (outcome). We periodically evaluated whether the right actions were being taken, whether risks were mitigated in time, and whether the project objectives remained achievable. Both the implementation approach and the technical and organizational effectiveness of the new network were assessed.

Result

The migration resulted in a completely renewed (W)LAN network, rolled out without any negative impact on patient care. The new network provides Isala with a solid foundation for future innovations and digital healthcare applications.
