Context
Dutch National Opera & Ballet (NO&B) creates, produces, and presents both traditional and innovative opera and ballet productions of the highest quality. With a strong focus on craftsmanship and the artistic and technical aspects of opera and ballet, Information Technology (IT) is not the first thing that comes to mind. Nevertheless, the need for digitalization has become increasingly pressing in this creative environment, and there was a clear demand for a defined vision and roadmap. QA Consulting was asked to support NO&B in this process.
Approach
In collaboration with all business owners, QA Consulting developed an IT vision and strategy. For each area of focus, the strategic direction was defined, including the necessary projects, an appropriate reference architecture, and a design for an IT organization tailored to NO&B. QA was also involved in the implementation of the strategy, actively supporting the organization’s digital transformation for more than 2.5 years.
Result
Key elements of the strategy included: policies and reference architecture for various business processes (audience, theater, and operations); a prioritized multi-year project portfolio for each business process, with clear impact on the organization and staff; and the outsourcing of IT services. QA also established a governance and information management organization, as well as the setup and monitoring of an integrated, strategic business case.
